Money Saving Tips for UK Motorists

Vehicle Parts & Traffic Signs in European Languages

Vehicle Parts & Traffic Signs in European Languages

A list of essential European motoring phrases to help you communicate with a recovery service agent or garage about problems with your vehicle while abroad.

If you suffer a breakdown or accident while driving on the Continent and you have European Breakdown cover, you can call your provider’s emergency helpline and you’ll be put through to an English-speaking agent.

However, because British breakdown services rely on local partners across Europe to assist their customers, there is no guarantee that the mechanic sent to assist you will be an English-speaker as well.

This could result in you not being able to explain the issue clearly to the mechanic, or vice versa, making an already stressful situation worse and possibly delaying the repair or recovery of your vehicle.

Even if that’s not the case, you could still face communication problems if you have to deal with a local garage, because your car couldn’t be fixed at the roadside by the patrol.

To aid you, we’ve put together a list of important vehicle parts and translated them into the four most popular languages spoken on the Continent – French, German, Italian and Spanish.

We’ve also created a table of common traffic signs, so you can familiarise yourself before you set off on your trip.
